strange?

hey, this might sound strange but i was just wondering if anyone knew why when i wash my dick with soap it smells, but when i wash with just water its much better. i suffered with phimosis up until last year, when i found this site and did the stretches, which worked. i then took extra care in cleaning my new head, which was all very new and exciting. then recentely i realised no matter how much soap i used and no matter how much i cleaned it, my dick still really smelt. so i stopped using soap, and now its much better. why? surely soap is meant to clean, not make things worse?
just wondered if anyone else had experienced this, or knows why this is?
