Sadly, Val, it's sound like you've been led to believe that stretching is always successful. The truth is that it is not, it works sometimes and other time it doesn’t. If you want another opinion then I'd strongly suggest that you speak to your doctor or get an appointment with a specialist to get an actual qualified professionals input and discuss your options and what you can realistically expect to achive.
