The "translation" of faggot is köcsög in Hungarian, or somehow this grew as identical term. The original meaning is "jug".
Not as offensive as in English speaking countries. At least, it's always very context-sensitive, and both heterosexual and gay people can use it both ways. There is a very common context when you refer to someone else or even something else (your computer perhaps) and then if you say "csinálj már valamit, köcsög" -- it's "do something already, bitch" (though, obviously, it's only safe when you're talking to objects, hahaha)
Anyhow, cultural differences aside --- I have heard a couple of gay people (natively English or American speaking) call themselves simply "just a faggot", so I thought it should be okay, given proper context or something.

Yes, I do as well think it has a similar thing to it as the "nigga" which is used quite commonly among blacks, but I for one won't just jump at someone's throat if they called me a faggot with the right context.
