As Gar/Ivan has elaborated on what I said, the head of your penis has a purpose, which is to stroke against the well-lubricated interior of your partner's vagina, in which situation it will be no more sensitive than you (or indeed, she) would want it to be.
If you want to do anything else with it, well, that's entirely up to you, but you can't then whinge about it no longer being the most exquisite experience when you do "graduate" to intercourse. If you insist on using it otherwise, use a proper lubricant.
