And I for one am very sorry that you can't always trust a doctor to be competent, but that's just another one of those "facts of life". You have to be capable of reviewing all the information, what the doctor gives you, what you read here, and what you read elsewhere, and looking for the common threads which make sense.
In apology for the doctor, remember that this may be a very sensitive subject. He may be circumcised himself, and however educated one may be, the thought that one has been harmed by people one trusted, or should have been able to trust, can be so difficult to bear that one turns to denial instead. Similar rationales exist for women (doctors) who may have had unpleasant experiences with sex which they then somehow link with circumcision, or who may have had their own children mutilated in ignorance at a time of diminished judgement.
