Such attribution is recognized by all intelligent readers as acknowledging that such is not intended to be taken as true. Indeed even if the attribution were not there, the wording would lead intelligent and honest-minded people to understand that it was a jest. A statement which does not, and is not meant to, deceive is no lie. Considering the date, I should have thought that even you could have recognized a quick joke.
