Actually, Paul is an Australian. He's probably just getting up or getting to his office right now. Anyway, don't expect any 'Harry Potter' cures on this. The Erythrmycin is an antibacterial, so it will help to fight many types of bacterial infection (but, alas, not fungal infection, which is a distinct possibility, although we must hope the doctor recognized the appropriate signs as to which is which - if there are any ways to tell). The creme should help to reduce inflammation (that's why you aren't hurting while walking), but the crustiness and oozing, etc. have to be healed by your own body. With most treatments, the purpose is to knock back whatever was causing the damage so as to give your body a chance to do the actual repairs. That takes time - you can't just spackle the body.
