What did the doctor tell he thought about the problem? Did he say anything about the cause or what the infection is? Did you discuss anything that has been suggested here?
As Paul is the only know physician here, he is the resident expert on the prescriptions you have been given. From my experience, I remember the Mycin thing to be an antibiotic from the 50s or 60s. This suggests that the doctor believes the infection is bacteria.
