Speaking from experience and from many people I have spoken to via e-mail on the subject, you're not wrong, Chimp. I suppose it's just difficult for those that have never suffered with phimosis and similar conditions to appreciate. Certainly it's not unheard of for some people to adjust/adapt and subsequently put up with it, while some even enjoy sex with it, but I would guess those cases are exceptions to the rule and in the minority.
