Understand two things, Harmen:
1) Why do people go into politics? It is because of the money, the fame, the nookie or the POWER. What people do we want in power? Personally, I prefer those that are after the nookie or the money (even if that implies some corruption).
According to Chekhov, a famous Russian writer, he was afraid of skinny politicians, because if a politician has a large stomach, he'll be in a good mood and not abuse his people.
What I do NOT want are "skinny" politicians like George W Bush who (I'm quite sure) doesn't masturbate his secretaries' pussies with a sigar. People like Bush come into office because they have some sort of a "vision" how to change the world etc. And THAT scares me.
2) Try to look up how many American presidents were assasinated or almost assasinated. Whatever the policy a president has, there are going be plenty of powerful groups willing to overthrow him. Lewinsky was a trap. Bill is just a guy. 'Nuff said.
