direct = you or your clothes touch it directly
indirect = your foreskin is sliding over it

well, I admit these aren't proper names either, as all is direct contact, but heh... so what we tend to call direct, is the kinds of contact/rubbing that's not intended by design, so, directly rubbing your glans with your fingers, with your clothes, etc. What is intended by nature's design is the contact with the foreskin, and the contact with the vagina. The mechanism of the last two either provides good lubrication, or the contacting object is more like rolling off and on the glans, than rubbing.

>What exactly is "direct rubbing"? When you masturbate, do your fingers touch the glans?

I sometimes masturbate by rubbing my fingers to the glans. That doesn't mean it's "normal" or anything.
