As an answer to: phimosis written by Henry Thompson at 17 Apr 2003 22:00:24:

>I'm 44, last year I gradually developed small but tight little ring of whitish skin around the foreskin, it's not troublesome when the penis is flaccid, but is fairly painful and annoying when erect - I get the 'hourglass' effect.

Interesting --- you say you have developed it, sort of. It would be interesting to know as to why your body has developed this, not? Does your doctor give any answers on that?

>I've been using a steroid cream for three months and things have improved a little but my Doctor is suggesting a circumcision. Using the cream is fairly annoying, I sometimes forget, plus I have to wash all traces of it off before sex.

Oh, so apparently he doesn't.

It's common that the tightening of the foreskin is the result of a fungal infection --- the culprit can be anything from overuse of soap to not well-controlled diabetes.

>a) does circumcision work? (I have had a fairly hit/miss experience with surgical fixes)

As one of our fellow board visitors tends to say (although in another context): It works for some and not for others.
It will solve "phimosis" as it removes the area that tightened up and of course it cannot be tight when it isn't there... but there is a chance you won't be satisfied with the result, there is loss of sensitivity (or sensual diversity as I would say more precisely) which you can choose to notice or choose not to notice, there is healing time (some amount of weeks) and while that lasts you cannot have sex, for example.

>b) are there alternatives like the three z-cut (?) that work?

z-cut? Whassat?
Some half page lower there is a picture of a dorsal slit, by the way, I think the post title mentions it...
