strectching and cream

Hi,
I have been stretching regulary the past couple of days. I also want to apply the cream. I have Betamethasone 0.1%. Now first of all what is the purpose of the cream ?? What does it do? I have heard of its thinning properties. Is that true.

Also how to apply cream and then stretch..gets slippery!! any suggestions..can i just apply the cream and sit around for sometime, and then wipe it off and start stretching.
