Zionism was about the Jews having a predominantly Jewish nation in the general viciniity of Mount Zion (on which the Old City of Jerusalem is). There are of course some who would like to re-establish the Davidic/Solomonic empire at the height of its stretch (as far north as the Euphrates R.), but the vast majority of Zionists were and would have been content to have the chunk alloted in the Palestinian Mandate (1948). It was not an anti-arab movement, as shown by the fact that millions of Arabs have lived in peace and prosperity in Israel since the modern state was founded (also becoming some of the most loyal and fierce troops in Israel's army). Modern Israel has tried to live in peace with its neighbors, but has repeatedly been attacked. Even now all but the very most extreme leaders have shown that they are willing to live in peace with the Arabs around them if the Arabs will only take stops to stop the attacks. Yes there have probably been some provocative moves by some elements of the Israeli nation, in and out of the country; it is virtually impossible to achieve perfect unanimity and discipline in any sufficiently large population (heck, there are substantial numbers of Americans who long to annex Canada, Mexico and Cuba). However, these have been quite small and limited: the vast majority of the provocations have come the other way. That is, unless you accept the Palestinian definition of the "Occupied Territories" which is the entire nation of Israel; under that view, the very existance of Jews in the Middle East is a provocation.
