"No real life person would be so gullible."

Having been a "real life person": naive, gullible, and shamed, too, I must disagree with you. Go to the pages of Circlist, PROCIRC, and the like, and you'll find many more of that type, quite a few of whom have far more serious problems. The young, unsuspecting, confused, and innocent who might find Parsimony and other such sites could easily be frightened off by the harshness of the personal attacks which sometimes permeate these pages. I'd suspect, however, that each person will gravitate toward the pole to which they are by nature attracted. It seems inevitable that a few will feel more comfortable sending private e-mail messages to someone who advocates genital mutilation. By that time they are no longer in the "gullible" camp, of course. They will have, instead, found their own brand of personal disorder, which they might control only through a rigorous, long-term discipline. It is to the healthy others to whom we must address ourselves. The rest must find their own way, through bitter experience.
