As an answer to: Still getting hairline fractures. written by Michael at 02 Jun 2003 12:11:17:

Hmmm, a bit of a worry by the look of it. Three answers were made to your previous post, of which two suggested, as I would have, that you needed to continue treatment for your previously described and recurrent yeast problem, whilst the third answer was as you are well aware, fairly useless.

I previously mentioned avoidance of soap, and not to get too anxious about "scarring". More than once, in fact.

My apologies if I failed to provide a conclusion regarding your "red spot". In brief, the suggestion is that if it was a spot, not a lump or thickening in any form, and not irritating, then it was/ is trivial.

The Mycelex® (Clotrimazole, same as Canesten®, Clonea®, Lotrimin®) sounds generally appropriate, but you may have to use it pretty persistently. In which case, the alternatives I suggested such as the oral Fluconazole (Diflucan®) may be appropriate. Whilst I have researched your previous posts as well as I reasonably can (in the last hour and a half!), I can't find a clear answer and really do think you need to be carefully checked (blood test, not urine) for diabetes, which is a most important possible cause of this problem, particularly given your age and the fact that it is a recent development. Of course, we've been through all this before, seven months ago! Did you answer and I missed it (I don't think I did)?

That said, and if you have indeed conclusively excluded diabetes (or would be the same if you had been found to be diabetic and started on management), the alternatives I mentioned - plain Zinc & Castor Oil ("nappy"/ "diaper") cream, or in fact an antifungal/ Hydrocortisone combination (Daktacort®), should be considered as possible ways to continue to manage the fissuring whilst you proceed with stretching.
