A few points here. Waking with an erection (during night or in morning) is not a problem, and not particularly surprising after masturbation - it's your body telling you "Wow that was great, when's the next one?". Cooling off (by getting out of bed) certainly does tend to kill it though.

And nowhere in the post did anything suggest priapism. How flaccid you become depends on warmth, relaxation and what you are thinking about. For young men at least, thinking about the penis is expected to cause it to take notice.

The vast majority of "bumps" on the shaft or scrotum are epidermoid cysts (blocked pores/ "whiteheads") which may become infected, especially if traumatised (fiddled with). If you're not sure about this, certainly, see a doctor, but urgency is extraordinarily unlikely.

Citalopram (CelexaŽ) is known for causing retarded ejaculation, despite what the nice rep tells me each time she comes round (actually, the last rep was for an alternative brand but was sufficiently wary not to go into this matter). I can't speak for Valproate or its derivatives (DepakoteŽ) - it may have some connection here. But all the side effects are reversible to the extent that if you can manage without the medication, the side effects should settle down, but the condition for which you needed the drugs may be far more dangerous than the side-effects.

So yes, I'm going for the answer, "all of these problems may well be created by anxiety" - and probably are. Less worrying and more enjoying is in order.

I find it sad as Ivan suggests, that GPs in the USA are so incompetent that they would refer such a problem to a "urologist", who in most cases will be completely inept at treating psychiatric problems, with or without a medication list. And I do hope that this is not neurosyphilis as he mentioned!

As for "redback" bites, let me assure you, they would not go unremarked (but would not cause a long-term problem either).
