...people are people, and being people they are all different. Even those that seem an almost cliche stereotype are different in their views and taste in music, politics, dress sense etc. Sure there are staple attributes which are characteristics that society generally associates with certain groups, minorities and whatever, but they are just as likely to be false as they are true. While it's a good thing for you to seek to understand people that are different to you, it is also worth bearing in mind that each person is an individual first and will always be different to the next person and not representative of a whole.
