I've read about people doing it themselves, but I would strongly recommend against doing that. They usually end up in hospital. It's too dangerous.

You don't need a circumcision to resolve the problem. Also, your doctor can't make you have anything. The problem you have is with the frenulum and can be solved without circumcision, so if he says you have to have a circumcsion - then go elsewhere. If you haven't done so already have a look at the site that hosts this forum, specifically the section on the frenulum should be useful for information on the procedure.
