As an answer to: Rubbish... written by AJ at 17 Jul 2003 14:06:28:
Rubbish is right. That's where most of them go.
Two weeks plus "maybe" four weeks...adds up to a month and a half...minimum?
That's not much difference from my "weeks and even months". So what's your point? One resident doctor at pro-circ sites suggests six months, and his suggestion has been verified by several men.As for those men who have willingly chosen genital mutilation, I am well aware of the fact. Not a few of them are so enthralled with genital mutilation that they have opted for more than one. One internet acquaintance of mine has had six! A recent regular at Fathermag is on number three, and he's contemplating a fourth. Oh, yes, AJ, your point of view has fine company.
As for the feelings of certain of these men about genital mutilation, I'll have to refer you to the dictionary. As an intact penis is necessary to any normal act of sexual intercourse for both the male and the female involved in the act,
anything less is a compromise. Webster's New Universal Unabridged Dictionary defines mutilation thusly: 1. to injure, disfigure, or make imperfect by removing or irreparably damaging parts. 2. To deprive (a person or animal) of a limb or other essential part.Argue with Webster, not with me.
>>What do you want us to tell you, that a little kiss will make all the pain and discomfort go away, and that you'll be just as good as new?
>He's asking a question, not looking for sympathy. Don't be so presumptious and patronising.
>>My God, man, your troubles have just begun.
>What, are you a prophet?
>>As you have had a circumcision, you can expect weeks and even months to pass before you are anywhere near "healed", which term is in itself a misnomer.
>It takes about 2 weeks for the initial healing period. Then maybe 4 weeks for the swelling to go completely.
>>Face it. You have mutilated your penis, permanently.
>You may feel he has mutilated his penis, Rood. However, most people would say that he has just had a circumcision.
>>Don't think I enjoy writing these words. I made the same mistake myself.
>Again, Rood, just because you felt that you made a mistake getting circumcised, it does not mean that holds true for every single male in existence. Indeed, if your assertion were true then there would be millions, perhaps billions of anti-circumcision activists instead of a relative handful scattered across the world.
>Please try and keep perspective on what you write, Rood. Maybe realise too that your perspective is only relevant to you. It is not always applicable to others and certainly not a given. These absolutes you give should not be presented as such as it is wholly inaccurate.
>Thanks.
